Story

The organic wine estate Lieselehof is situated in Kaltern am See, one of the historic wine-growing areas of the country. The Morandell family has been active in viniculture for many generations. Today, the passionate wine-grower Werner Morandell is mainly involved with the cultivation of grapes that can be used for first-class organic wines.

Lieselehof is situated in a very quiet and beautiful area surrounded by vineyards and orchards with splendid panoramic views. The town of kaltern is within walking distance and there is a great variety of shops and restaurants. There is a sports centre near to Lieselehof where you can enjoy tennis, football, athletics, jogging, and also there is a large ice rink. We are also situated near to the Mendel Bahn Station built in 1903 where there are regular alpine trains to take you up to the Mendel Pass (1.363m). This is a very good starting point for splendid mountain excursions. We are very aware of the need to use natural products where possible. The house was built in 1998 using 100% only natural products eg. Slovenian oak, Tuscan Terra-Cotta. Hot water is provided by solar energy alone.

The best time for visiting a winery is in the spring and the autumn - then there's so much to experience there. In Springtime, you can observe nature awakening and forming a new life cycle. Autumn is the time of the grape harvest, and the first grapes are pressed.

We offer guided tours through our vineyards and wine cellar with wine tastings right through to participation in the grape harvest. The visitors themselves determine how much they want to participate in the winemaker’s every day life.
